Lead As You Are

A wise man once quipped, “you can come as you are, there ain’t no dress code.”

Well, that wise man was Tim McGraw and we’re taking a page from his farm musings about rural route rules.

Let’s be honest: one of the best perks of working remotely is the dress code–or lack thereof. I’m talking Monday mornings in fuzzy slippers, yoga pants, and your alma mater sweatshirt that may have seen better days (or decades). Perhaps your wardrobe of choice while working from home is something casual that you’d wear during an afternoon visit to Whole Foods. Or maybe, just maybe, you enjoy dressing “for the job you have” to stimulate your workflow.

We’ve got news for you: these are all encouraged at The Haven. In fact, we recently installed a slippers rack to park your at-work fuzzies (because who wants to wear Sorel boots all day this winter?)

Lead As You Are is our way of putting the “life” into work-life balance. When creating The Haven, Carrie Douglass (co-founder) wanted to emulate the homey vibes of a living room without the distractions of dogs barking at doorbells and perpetual laundry piles. A part of nestling into a cozy workspace includes feeling cozy

Workspace culture has slowly adopted the “no dress code” trends and we’re seeing it pop up everywhere from Target to Google. In fact, the folks at The Balance Careers just published their guide to what to wear when there’s no dress code.

Their number one suggestion? “Wear what makes you feel confident.”

Maybe your confidence comes in the form of a dress shirt and tie. Perhaps you’d feel best in ripped jeans and Birkenstocks. Or, if you’re anything like me, you reach for the all-black, no-fail, go-to wardrobe in any work situation. The best part about being your own boss? YOU get to decide which attire is appropriate!

We never wanted anyone to feel as if they “had” to dress up in order to show up as a member at The Haven–quite the contrary. In a world where movies and blogs tell us how we need to dress, we want to support you in your success and growth, regardless of your wardrobe. For me, that means some days I’m in yoga pants, a hoodie and slippers. Other days I’m wearing a new dress and heels. And guess what – you might not believe this – but I can actually lead successfully wearing either outfit. At The Haven, we encourage you to come as you are. Lead as you are. Create as you are.
